ENC 280(E)

Intelligent data modem

The ENC 280(E) is an intelligent data modem that has been specifically designed for the read-out of multifunctional meters for electricity, gas and heat.
Connection is made either via direct switched line, private branch exchange or analog ISDN branch exchange lines (with analog adapter).

Apart from the transparent transmission of data between the telephone interface and the meter interface, special procedures for the optimal support of the standardized IEC protocol have been implemented. Among these features are an automatic baud rate adjustment on site and the constant monitoring and adaptation to the corresponding protocol status. Furthermore, the device provides for the management of access rights through the administration of passwords which can be freely defined. The setting of the parameters can be carried out through any terminal software or the parameterization software PARA400 can be used.

The ENC 280(E) offers a data throughput with a rate of 14400 bits per second (V.32). The transmission of data is carried out with error correction and data compression accord to the protocols V.42 LAPM, MNP 2-4 or MNP10. It is thus possible to attain a high degree of transmission reliability even if the quality of the telephone connection is poor. Call reception can be controlled via an external contact to provide for simultaneous operation on a single telephone branche with several users.

The ENC 280(E) can be configured for the connection to a meter via a 20 mA interface according to IEC 1107 (CL1) specification, a TTL interface (5 V level) or an RS232-interface (V.24) depending on your choice. Power supply can be either with 230 V (AC) or 100 V (AC). Current operating status such as communication, parameter setting mode or call reception are displayed by two LEDs.
