Invented over 130 years ago by Thomas Edison, energy
meters are as old as the energy grids. Since then metering procedures
have been continuously improved and the implemented technology has been
minituarised. The first Ferraris meters were mechanical masterpieces
and their production demanded the precision of watchmakers. Later on
the construction of meters was determined more by the necesssity of cost-effective
production and the life time of the products. During the course of time, energy meters became more complex. Tariff registers, ripple control, interfaces, display, parameterisation, special applications, schedulers, output lists and data formats - the variable functionality required for modern electricy meters has increased tremendously over the last years. Modern energy markets must have standardised electronic communication and processing of technical and commercial data. The array of metering equipment transpired to be a burden as the metering datas still needs to be standardised for the data exchange with third parties. EMETRION – the standard The innovative 3rd generation meters meet this challenge as they are optimised for cost-effective automatic metering in a broad range of standard applications. Simple but brilliant The metrological features and accuracy classes are finely tuned to the demands of these sectors. The meters' optimisation for universal standards and its reduction in options and variations result in an efficient streamlined production in terms of quality assurance. Automatic Common standards are applied here and GSM and GPRS are ideal solutions to read customers meters which are widely spread over the distance. This communication module is available ex works for the EMETRION IQ separated from the measurment part. Tariff customers implement Powerline or radio networks, as the readings are more numerous. Consequently EMETRION net and EMETRION plus communicate over Powerline, Bluetooth®, Zigbee® or WLAN, depending on which is more suitable. Intelligent data collection The systemic integration is another highlight of the innovative EMETRION meters. The data formats and reading procedures were selected for their compatability to current AMR and EDM systems. Consistently low-priced System integration Online communication with a central system such as the EDW3000 is supported as well as the mobile data collection with handheld computers. The customers can submit their own readings in an automated self-reading process. Different requirements and applications require optimised IT media usage, therefore network technology is directly integrated in the meter firmware. This makes automatic meter reading simple, reliable and cost-effective - a brilliant solution.
